Capacity building and internationalization of NGO activities in Liepāja city and Klaipeda district

Common territorial challenge (s) that will be tackled by the project

Liepāja in Latvia and Klaipėda region in Lithuania face common challenges in supporting and strengthening the non-governmental organisations (NGOs). They play an important role in the development of municipalities, fostering community engagement, problem-solving, and the implementation of various initiatives. However, the NGO sector in the region is often fragmented, with limited capacity and opportunities for cooperation. Moreover, NGOs often lack the necessary skills, knowledge, and resources.

Project objective

The project aims to enhance organisational capacity, internationalisation, resilience and sustainability of NGOs as well as to build mutual trust between the NGOs and local municipalities, by establishing a support mechanism for NGOs.

Planned activities

The project’s key output is the elaboration and piloting of the supporting mechanism for NGOs “NGO Growth Incubator”, offering training, mentoring and networking opportunities. Experience exchange visits will be organised to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, best practices and innovative solutions among the NGOs and municipality specialists. A network and a contact list will be established to support continuous collaboration. While the final conference will be organised to disseminate the project results. Cross-border cooperation, sharing experiences and knowledge transfer are essential to strengthen the capacity and resilience of NGOs as well as to increase their impact in the region. By enhancing the capacity of NGOs, the project creates an opportunity to build a more robust and resilient civil society sector capable of effectively addressing the regional development goals.
