An international conference was held on 22 January 2026 in Koknese, Likteņdārzs (Latvia), bringing together project partners and local businesses to share experiences and discuss improvements in water tourism development in Latvia and Northern Lithuania.
The conference, “Blue gold: water tourism as a driver of growth and a bridge for cooperation,” was organized within the framework of the project “Enhancement of sustainable water tourism in the Lithuania–Latvia cross-border region, involving local entrepreneurs and communities” (WaterTour, No. LL-00134) and financed by project funds. The event was attended by approximately 80 participants.
During the conference, tourism opportunities along water routes in the Zemgale region and Northern Lithuania were presented. Participants attended presentations on water tourism development and strategic planning delivered by experts from both countries, followed by discussions, experience sharing, and networking with water tourism developers from Lithuania and Latvia.
The project partners expect that the infrastructure, information materials, and events developed within the project will contribute to the promotion of water tourism, attract visitors to the cross-border region, and create favorable conditions for tourism activities for local communities, businesses, and tourism service providers.
The project is funded by the 2021-2027 Interreg VI-A Latvia-Lithuania Program.
