Promotion of music cooperation and education through digital learning and development of the joint Zemgala Orchestra

Common territorial challenge (s) that will be tackled by the project

Rural music and art schools in Lithuania and Latvia face such common challenges as geographic isolation, limited opportunities for collaboration and insufficient resources for modern teaching. These schools struggle with outdated technology and a lack of effective distance-learning methodologies, which became especially evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers face difficulties accessing professional development opportunities, while students have limited exposure to diverse cultural practices and creative collaborations.

Project objective

The project aims to enhance music education quality and foster cross-border cultural cooperation by establishing a joint Zemgala Orchestra. This his initiative will improve teaching methods, enrich learning experiences with advanced digital learning technologies, collaborative activities, and professional development for teachers.

Planned activities

The project key activities include regular virtual and in-person rehearsals for the joint Zemgala Orchestra, culminating in joint concerts, with final performances in Naujoji Akmenė and Dobele. Traditional music and piano festivals will showcase the talents of students from both countries, and promote cultural exchange. Teachers will benefit from master-classes and seminars designed to build their skills and share best practices across border. By fostering collaboration between schools and leveraging shared resources, the project introduces innovative teaching methods, including smart classroom technologies. The creation of the cross-border orchestra is a unique outcome, promoting cultural exchange and leaving a lasting impact on students, teachers, and their communities in Lithuania and Latvia.
