On October 24, 2025, firefighters from Dienvidkurzeme municipality and the Skoda District in Lithuania met for joint training sessions to implement an experience exchange day envisaged by the project between the Latvian and Lithuanian fire and rescue services, strengthening cross-border disaster risk prevention and management.

Participants became acquainted with the Volunteer Firefighters’ Station in Vaiņode, the work of the Priekule unit of the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD), and also visited the Nīca parish solar power plant “Elenger Latvija”. There, participants were introduced to the topic “BESS operating principles and potential risks in the event of a fire in renewable energy parks”, with the involvement of both local and international experts from SIA OMS, Huawei, and Elenger Latvija.

Respecting history, participants visited the educational museum located at the homestead “Rogas”, where, through the narration of experienced firefighter and history collector Jānis Roga, they learned about a collection of historical firefighting items and facts.

The event concluded at the Nīca Cultural Centre with a session on disaster risk prevention, focusing on environmental factors. The session was led by Elīna Medne, Senior State Environmental Inspector of the Kurzeme Regional Administration of the Nature Conservation Agency
