Daugavpils City Government participated in the trade fair held in Daugavpils, providing visitors with opportunities to learn about the work of the local government, its main functions and modern approaches to the involvement and education of residents. The municipal stand was aimed at informing youngsters and other interested people about the role of the Daugavpils City Government in the development of the city, the diversity of daily work and career opportunities in the public sector. Visitors were able to find out about projects developed and implemented by Daugavpils’ municipality in various fields: education, digital development and public participation. For example, they could learn about waste sorting system, as well as other initiatives aimed at environmental protection, introduction of digital solutions and citizen involvement.

Particular attention was paid to the municipal project “Joint nature-based preservation of climate change/humans-threatened urban LV-LT cross-border wetlands umbrella biodiversity by innovative solutions, reintroduction and joint management”, (UrbUmbrella) which is being implemented in the framework of Interreg VI-A Latvia-Lithuania Programme 2021-2027. Within the framework of the project community engagement promotion activities is developed an artificial intelligence-supported e-learning tool on the site www.urbanwetland.eu. At the Trade Fair students had the opportunity to test their knowledge of nature and the environment in Daugavpils using the planned training platform, which is still in the process of development, but already offers to test scholars’ knowledge and acquire new information in an interactive way. During the fair visitors could try the platform in practice, answering various thematic questions about nature and the city’s role in protecting animals, wetlands and parks. For successfully passing the test juniors were able to get a certificate and awards from municipality.

In order to promote students’ interest and active involvement, a quiz was also organised at the municipal stand, during which, participants could check their knowledge of Daugavpils City Government, its functions and city development issues and projects. The quiz served as an informal and engaging way to address young people and encourage them to think about future jobs within the municipal structure.

The event also helped strengthen dialogue with young people about their future career possibilities and involvement in urban development planning.
